Lois Jane’s Gourd Thangs

E-Mail
Bio: Lois Jane's Gourd Thangs consist of home grown gourds turned into functional and wearable art. I concentrate on three lines which I dubbed "Gourd a la Cord" (jewelry, purses and wall hangings), "Gourd Divas" (gourd dolls, hat & wig stands) and "SiGourdney Weaver" (gourd baskets & vessels). Much of the work is handpainted except when the natural beauty of the gourd prohibits being covered. Recently I went out of my gourd and started 2 completely different products...dolls and aprons. All are fun unique and one-of-a kind!

Roxy Lentz

Bio: I make jewelry primarily with old silverplate trays and copper found at thrift stores. By using re-cycled metal the jewelry has a unique look that I can't achieve any other way. The patina is very complex and draws the person looking at it in. To make a necklace I saw up several different types of metal. I file and smooth the edges and then add the patina with a torch. Depending on the type of metal, and the thickness of the silver determines the final look of the piece. Each piece is unique, and often when I start a piece, even I am surprised at what finally develops.

Sally Fitch

Bio: Encouraged and supported by family, friends and teachers, Sally has always had a strong involvement in art. It led to a career and lifelong interest in painting. Sally received her Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Southern Illinois University and her Master of Science degree in Art Education from Indiana University. Sally spent many rewarding years as a public school art teacher in Illinois and Indiana. For years, Sally helped many of her graduating students prepare for their own careers in art. Since retirement, Sally has had more time to pursue other interests: acrylic painting, watercolor painting, and, along with her husband, Paul, restoring an old house and antiquing. Paul and Sally (Paul Sally Studio) work together designing and building folding screens, furniture and other decorative items. They take on projects on a commission basis. While living in the northern Indiana, Sally founded the Northwest Indiana area group of Plein Air Painters (outdoor painters). Her paintings and art work are a part of many private collections. "I love painting! Even though the subject matter changes from portraits, house portraits, scenics, gardens, florals, to abstracts, a lively, colorful personal touch is added to everything. The art experience is very gratifying. I hope others enjoy my art work as much as I enjoy doing it!"

Later she became Chief, Position and Pay Management then Chief, Management Services Directorate where she served at the executive level as primary advisor to four Commanders. Marguerite retired in 1987 and became a full time Realtor until 2000. With such a busy career there was not a lot of time for "art" but she pursued courses in folk art and china painting, and subsequently realized that she really wanted to do fine art. She studied under an Art Instructor at Hanover College for over a year, and has worked in developing her own skills. Marguerite essentially dropped her art until she went into semi-retirement in the year 2000. She currently works in oils, but has done china painting, glass painting, tole painting, and folk art. Lawrence Rudolech

Website
E-Mail
Bio: A native of Madison, Indiana, Lawrence Rudolech has spent most of his life admiring and studying the simple and natural beauty of southern Indiana's countryside. Larry credits the Boy's Club as instrumental in cultivating his young artistic career. They provided him with his first oil paints and introduced him to Mr. Lou Knoble, who would be his high school art instructor and the driving force behind Larry's artistic career. Larry attended The John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis with plans for a career in Graphic Design. Larry has worked in all the facets of commercial art and ran his own freelance design and illustration company. Larry did not take his fine art career seriously again until the late 1990s when he became a member of the Madison Art Club. In 2001 he entered and was accepted into his first Hoosier Salon Show. Larry has had work in this prestigious show every year since and has won numerous awards. "Why I paint I'm not sure and I have often wondered why anyone would even bother to paint at all. One thing I have come to know, is I can't stop trying to express to others what it is I see maybe even more, feel when I gaze on a site as simple as a road covered with an an early morning fog. I don't think I see anything different than what others see, I am just trying to make sure they don't realize that it is only with God's blessing that I am able to see sometimes more with my heart than with my eyes. So maybe that is why I try to use my brush to express what others may be able to put into words. I also don't think I need to paint every detail, nor do I want to. Because I am not really dealing with what is in the painting, as much as I am dealing with the emotions I am feeling at the time I am painting it. That is why I feel my work is only successful when I feel more coming from it, than what I see coming from it."
